Sometimes, a Walk’s Hard
by Keith / July 5th, 2009
An article in The Fayetteville Observer highlights the danger of trying to walk in the city. The examples the article highlights are grim. But on a less dramatic level, I think quality of life would be improved if Fayetteville tried harder to be pedestrian-friendly and bicycle-friendly. With a few exceptions, for the most part, it’s not really laid out for that.

While it could hardly be called ’shovel-ready,’ I think a fine project for recession-recovery largesse would be restructuring Fayetteville’s road system into something more grid-like. After all these years, it’s still a pain in the ass to get across town — by car, by foot, by bike.
Such a project would also call for renaming streets for consistency. To wit: pick one of Skibo Road, Pamalee Drive, Country Club Drive or Tokay Drive. This is not a road that requires four names. And “Rowan” does not need to refer to multiple streets in the same downtown area.
